What is an adoption plan and how do I make one?
The choice of adoption usually doesn't happen overnight and adoption itself, of course, cannot happen until after birth. You can work with counselors while you are exploring options to confirm whether this is truly the best option for you. Should you choose adoption, you have time to consider a plan for how you will handle it with your family, identify the parents you want for your child, consider what kind of contact you want with the family after the adoption, etc. Your plan will also include whether you want to spend time with the baby after birth and where, when and how you will transition the baby to the care of the adoptive parents. You have time to create an adoption plan that includes all of these things. Many adoption plans include an “Entrustment Ceremony” which marks the transition of the child from your care to the adoptive family's care.
